A Stylish Winter Getaway in Rangeley, Maine
The numerous little towns scattering upstate New York are the standard go-to getaway for the typical New Yorker seeking respite from city life, if only for a weekend. But if you have a few more days to spare and an adventurous partner or quarantine pod, we might suggest going even farther north to Rangeley, Maine. You’ll find a winter wonderland, a nearby ski resort, a scenic lake, and numerous hikes. Best of all it’s an affordable alternative to the now overwhelmingly popular destinations scattered throughout upstate New York with their matching overwhelming price tags. It’s a 7.5 hour drive and worth every mile if you have a long holiday week at your disposal, or if you’re looking to relocate your remote office for a while.
Dress Code: Cozy
A cabin-style home away from home with lake views and a wood burning furnace calls for one thing only: your softest coziest sweater. Throw in a good book and warm latte while the snow delicately falls outside and you’re basically living in Hallmark movie.
Meg gals love to read. Yes, I've started it, no longer is it just adorning my home to make me look cool!
If your pupper wants to interrupt, let him.
This fleece cardigan is the coziest; consider it a teddy coat you can wear indoors
Go Out and Stand Out
If you're fortunate enough to stay on L.L. Bean Drive (yes, literally), you'll find yourself a stone's throw away from Saddleback Mountain, the Appalachian Trail, and countless hiking options.
Enjoy the Ride
Don't forget to look out your car window and soak it all in. Especially you city slickers!
When in Rome (or Boston)
Boston just about marks the halfway point between Rangeley, MA and New York City which makes it the perfect pit stop when you're ready to jump back into city life. And since lobster just tastes better in the northeastern US, might we suggest a popular seafood restaurant in the charming dining and shopping destination of Boston's Back Bay neighborhood?
We were fortunate enough to find both delicious seafood and outdoor seating with heat lamps at Saltie Girl, a trendy but casual restaurant that's more than worth the pit stop.
The famous Saltie Girl Burger complete with a fried lobster snack on top.
Are you team Bloody Mary or team Mimosa? This one comes with a delicious oyster!
